WASHINGTON: A key American lawmaker, who co-chairs the Congressional Pakistan caucus, has expressed his “sincere gratitude” to leadership

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and Chief of the Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir have demonstrated in the ongoing peace negotiations between the US and Iran.

“You have our deep and lasting gratitude,” Congressman Jack Bergman, a Republican, said in letters addressed to the Pakistani leaders, adding, “Your partnership has been indispensable to that effort.”

President Trump, he said, had accomplished what past administrations could not.

“The United States’ relationship with Pakistan is of enduring strategic importance, and Pakistan’s willingness to leverage its unique position to bring these parties to the table is a demonstration of true statesmanship,” he said, noting that President Donald Trump, the White House, and Congress have recognized as much publicly.

“I echo those sentiments fully,” Bergman said. “On behalf of the Congressional Pakistan Caucus, thank you.”

“I look forward to returning to Pakistan soon and to continuing to strengthen the bond between our two nations in person.”
