Lahore: Punjab schools are expected to announce early summer vacations as extreme heat and ongoing heatwave warnings continue to affect students and academic activities across the province.
According to the Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), temperatures during May, June, and July are expected to remain above normal in most districts of Punjab. The weather advisory has raised concerns about student safety, prompting authorities to consider closing schools earlier than the usual summer break schedule.
Reports suggest that Eid ul Adha holidays will likely be observed from May 27 to May 29. Since May 30 and May 31 fall on the weekend, the Punjab government is considering starting summer vacations for schools from May 27 instead of June 1.
The decision regarding early school holidays in Punjab is expected to be announced soon by the provincial education department.
Meanwhile, Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat has proposed reducing both summer and winter vacations in the future to recover academic losses and increase the annual number of school days from 180 to 190.
In a separate development, private schools in Punjab have requested permission to organize summer camps during vacations from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. to help students continue learning while avoiding peak heat hours.
With temperatures rising across the province, parents, teachers, and students are closely awaiting the official announcement regarding Punjab summer vacations 2026.
