PESHAWAR,:The Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has decided to completely suspend mining operations during the ongoing rainy spell, with the Mines and Minerals Department issuing a formal notification in this regard here on Monday.
According to the notification, entry into both underground and surface mines has been strictly prohibited due to heightened safety risks.
The department warned of a serious threats of landslides in mining areas, while rainwater accumulation may lead to flooding inside mines.
It also highlighted increased risks of accidents due to the use of electrical equipment in wet conditions, as well as slipping hazards that could result in worker injuries.
Workers have been directed to strictly follow safety standard operating procedures (SOPs) and ensure protection of their own lives as well as those of their colleagues.
The department further instructed that any emergency situation must be reported immediately to the concerned authorities, emphasizing that negligence in adopting precautionary measures could lead to loss of precious lives.
