KARACHI :The Sindh Government’s Department of Sports and Youth Affairs has upgraded 10 sports complexes across the province, granting them the status of formal sports clubs.
In this regard, two separate meetings were held at the Sindh Secretariat under the chairmanship of Sindh Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs, Sardar Muhammad Bux Mahar. The meetings focused on converting sports complexes into clubs and forming a provincial cricket team with the cooperation of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
The first meeting was attended by former national captain Younis Khan, Sadiq Muhammad, Sports Secretary Munawar Ali Mahesar, and others. Detailed consultations were held on the selection of players for Sindh’s team to participate in the Pakistan Cup.
Minister Sardar Muhammad Bux Mahar directed that the team be formed strictly on merit so that talented players get the opportunity to shine. He emphasized that the goal is not just participation but winning the Pakistan Cup, and therefore a strong, merit-based team is being assembled.
On this occasion, former Test captain Younis Khan stated that Sindh has immense cricketing talent, which can be highlighted at the national level if given proper opportunities.
The second meeting was attended by Sports Secretary Munawar Ali Mahesar, Director Asad Ishaq, Chief Engineer Muhammad Aslam Mahar, and other officials. Approval was granted to upgrade 10 sports complexes into sports clubs, with instructions to provide youth with quality facilities and membership opportunities.
Minister Sardar Muhammad Bux Mahar said that the establishment of sports clubs will provide young people with gyms, walking tracks, e-libraries, paddle courts, and badminton facilities. Additionally, selected youth clubs in Hyderabad and Gulistan-e-Jauhar will also be equipped with swimming pools.
He added that these facilities will offer professional coaching and better opportunities for youth to progress.
Sardar Muhammad Bux Mahar further said that ordinary citizens will also benefit from these clubs by adopting a healthy lifestyle, improving fitness, and engaging in positive activities, thereby promoting the development of a healthy, active, and talented society.
